Synergy.

Nice word that. It means ‘The interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects’.

Which pretty much perfectly sums up a good comics creative partnership.

Everyone loves Jack Kirby, right?  Come listen now as I, Gary Lactus discuss with that corpulent comic critic, Tymbus, The Losers from DC Comics.  Originally published in Our Fighting Forces, this podcast deals with the recently collected hardback.  We also try an experiment in which I use the sound effects from the book to generate some Dadaist sound poetry.

This time we look at and talk about some incredibly non-essential publications from comics history and answer some of your welcome letters and emails.  We have romance with Teen Confessions, thrilling drama with Have You The Nerve To Face The Unexpected, and rubbish with Wrath.

We also ponder the question: Malibu Comics, did it flip or did it float?

Batman & Robin 666 #9

May 25th, 2009

PREVIOUSLY IN BATMAN AND ROBIN 666….

In the aftermath of the Sensei’s attack on Gotham city and a near lethal , three pronged assault on their friends by super-assassins contracted by one of the shadowy forces vying for control of Nu-Gotham, Batman and Robin are forced to make some tough decisions.

With his secret identity compromised and Lucius Fox hospitalised by the dreadful killer Action Figure, Damian Wayne decides its time to go public and unmask.

It’s the morning after the last of the assassins was defeated and most of the team are shored up in Bat Mountain, Batman’s hidden fortress folded into the architecture of Wayne Tower.

This is what happens next….

You are nine years old, and have a small amount of pocket money to spend. You are standing in a generic branch of WH Smiths in the South east of England. It is the summer holidays, and you have been dragged around the shops on a Saturday afternoon by your Mum. Finally it is your time to shine. Do you:

Buy some kind of worthy children’s book about wartime orphans or brave hamsters ? (Go to p46)

Save the money so you can buy something big and cool in a few weeks, like a Transformer? (Go to p71)

Buy yourself a Fighting Fantasy game book? (Go to the rest of this article…)
