parched mindlessness

April 23rd, 2011

Yeah, so basically, do you spot the clever allusion to the best tumblr ever? But also, hey, today’s subject is indebted to that site’s. Think about it. Anyway, welcome to the Frank ‘Vincent Deighan’ Quitely aggregator, I’d run fuckyeahfrankquitely, but there’s not so much work you know? This is me farming content. Live. Here. Mindlessones. Dot-com.

Ain’t seen this before tho probably b:

There follows a second example of Mr. Q covering Frank Miller if that sort of thing excites, which obviously

It came to me in a flash

He says.

Scott Kurtz, creator of PVP, asks the question about Jim Woodring’s Nibbus Maximus calculations and hears the best answer in the history of giant tools.

I should back up.

Some of you may not know, but the dark god Cthulhu is a HUGE Jim Woodring fan. So huge, in fact, that he flew all the way from R’lyeh (he flew Alaska, an AMERICAN airline; eat it, Mindless) to attend Woodring’s unveiling of the Nibbus Maximus. Natch, he invited me to accompany him. (FYI it was not a date, but we did have a splendid dinner at Seattle’s Ruth Chris stake house after the show. Cthulhu had lobster.)

Regrettably, Cthulhu refused to have his face/mollusk ponch photographed because he was having a bad hair day, but he did allow me to photograph his tentacles.

Check out the unspeakable things after the jump

In anticipation of this week’s UK release of Prison Pit Book Two, the follow up to Johnny Ryan’s psychopathically nasty but much-loved and lauded 2009 bio-carnage fightfest, let’s take a closer look at one of the many striking and remarkable panels we were so luckily and unapologetically offered by Book One.

Click to enlarge, and then again to go close-up – it looks great all blown-up and backlit.

Yeah yeah, so he’s called Cannibal Fuckface not Bloodhead like I had guessed before. It’s nice becasue it means a the start when the guard calls him ‘Fuckface’ he’s not being abusive, just calling him by his surname. It’s the only non-abusive act in the book. Oh, and I guess the CF thing is a Nu-Action in-joke. Cheers guys, hilarious.

Hypercomics

Gary Lactus and myself recently went along to the Hypercomics exhibition being held at the Pump House gallery in Battersea Park. It’s part of the excellent Comica festival a truly diverse celebration of comics culture, which has been running since 2003. It featured the work of four very different comics creators: Warren Pleece, Daniel Merlin Goodbrey, Dave McKean and Adam Dant. But what exactly is ‘Hypercomics’? Well, why not allow the exhibition’s curator, erstwhile British comics legend, creator of the legendary Escape magazine and all round decent bloke, Paul Gravett fill us in…

This is the work of my good friend Paul O’Connell, ably abetted by the terrifyingly talented Lawrence Elwick. It’s a little animation of their excellent ‘Charlie Parker: Handyman’ comic.

This should be on TV in the wee hours of the morning, the perfect tonic for all the alcoholics, insomniacs and late night dreamers the world over….

Lovely stuff.

Go check out more of Paul’s work at the Sound of Drowning website.

(I posted this over at  Milk The Cat, but I thought it was pretty cool, so I’m reposting it here…)

So my friend Lee worked on the set design for the new KICK ASS! movie, adapting Mark Millar and John Romita’s hugely successful comic. He very kindly used one of my images as a poster on young Dave’s (the hapless protagonist) bedroom wall. I donated the following delightful image:

zombiechick

I call it ‘rotten cheesecake’ artwork. Lovely.

Keep an eye for it in the film. I know I’ll be scouring the movie with eagle eyes for a fleeting glimpse of it.

Apparently it’s in the background here – you can make it out just in the far left corner I think. My friend Lee reckons it gets a nice shot in the film itself. Can’t wait to find out for myself…

So I can say that I worked on the design for KICK ASS! can’t I…?

Maybe not. But it’s still pretty cool huh?
