2010 Mindless Podcast #4 Orc Stain
December 2nd, 2010
This time we look at what The Beast Must Die has brought to the table. Listen with baited ears as we drink more, shout over the top of each other and discuss James Stokoe’s Orc Stain from Image Comics.

Yeah, ‘The New Weird’ is a bullshit term but I still like a lot of what it’s going for, and a lot of what youse guys seem to be going for here.
Fantasy that’s not just mucky, faded photocopy of Prof JRR Tolkein’s wrinkled bumcheeks or Gary Gygax’s guide to S&M funtimes? It’s not quite that simple, but it sometimes feels that way.
A shocking revelation: I have not read Orc Stain. Because: I have not been able to find a single issue of it in any of my local geek huts. I feel that I have shamed my fellow Mindless Ones with this confession, so if anyone can help me SORT THIS OUT then that’d be lovely.

It cannot be helped out. It is the very rarest of beasts.

I am for sadness. Though, you know, this will be traded, yes? Good.
Also: I appear to have suffered from a temporary (re)lapse of sanity while I was composing my last post, because I have never read “Gary Gygax’s guide to S&M funtimes” but I would definitely like to.

Thrills, you have just lived up to your name, probs not for the first time but still – I thank you for this timely information!

It is tres fucking gorgeous and cheap too. You owe it to yerselves for Christmas (a time for receiving)

Just got the trade in the mail off Amazon for about a £7, after P+P. It really is a nice-looking slab of comics. The cover alone makes me want to go off and do some sketching, myself.
Looking forward to reading it on a rubbish Christmas train journey.

What was that unmentioned series of fantasy books?
By the way great show much better than most comic podcasts which are mostly hour long fan boy drool fests. Inkstuds is excluded of course.
Cheers from America.

Cheers from us to you, Leroy. Like the art, by the way.
Those unmentioned fantasy book series was George RR “I’m gonna die before I finish writing them” Martin’s Game of Thrones, of which three of us are big fans.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:57 am
Three?! Did you get twinset on it, Zom?
he is not going to die
January 13th, 2011 at 9:39 am
Yes, twinset. The Poodle likes them a lot.
GRRM: He’s 62, he’s just been in hospital, he doesn’t look very healthy (Dr Zom’s opinion), and he’s got loads more books to write.
He is so going to die*.
In the meantime we’ll get lots of Wild Cards
*He’s a good guy. I’m not wishing death on him. Just using science to deduce actual facts
January 16th, 2011 at 2:07 pm
Fuck Wild Cards.
The thing with the eternally-delayed Dance With Dragons is – I think it’s become two books? I think. So, and I don’t know, it might be the last two, or maybe there’s one more to go?
don’t die beardy
