Podcast: Dash Shaw’s Body World
April 14th, 2009
We like Dash Shaw’s Body World!.
It’s a web comic from the year 2009! Listen here whilst Gary Lactus, Amy Poodle and Zom talk about it:
Here’s a couple of the sequences we discuss.
Now go and read the whole thing!

I’m so glad you guys found Body World. It is an amazing work and quite possibly superior to Bottomless Belly Button, which is a much faster read than you would think at 700+ pages, and also exceptional. I predict Dash Shaw will be a Mindless favorite for years to come. (On a related note, check out the Inkstuds podcast interview with Dash, pretty interesting guy and worth listening to.)
With the economic pinch hitting home I’ve actually been turning to webcomics more and more, and there are quite a few good ones out there. Most of the Zuda output is average at best but Kevin Colden’s I Rule the Night stands out as something special. (http://zudacomics.com/i_rule_the_night) His completed webcomic Fishtown is in print from IDW but also still available to read online as well (http://hottencolden.livejournal.com/13015.html). Colden is one to keep an eye on.
You guys already mentioned Sin Titulo, which is definitely one of my favorites, but a couple others worth checking out also are Paul Grist’s Big Cosmic Comic (http://bigcosmiccomic.blogspot.com/) and Kathryn and Stuart Immonen’s Moving Pictures (http://www.immonen.ca/comics/). Hope you like them.

Thanks for the recommendations, Justin. I will be checking out that podcast, as well..
Having read on considerably further I’m starting to wish that Dash wasn’t so intent on being humorous. It’s not that the comedy elements don’t work for me – on the whole they do – just that some of it seems to work against his other achievements. His dialogue strikes me as particularly problematic in this regard.
That minor gripe aside, I too predict that Dash’ll be a mindless favourite for years to come

Thanks, Justin. That Inkstuds podcast looks good. Deals with some excellent artists. Putting a load on my pod right now for work tomorrow.

A little late, but this was a great podcast interview with DASH SHAW, long before the Inkstuds and I think before he broke big. He’s really thoughtful, soft-spoken, and funny.
