SILENCE! #284

September 8th, 2020

I’VE BEEN SAVING UP FOR A LIFE LIKE THIS, YOUR GOD IS BOOING YOU OFF STAGE AND YOUR HEROES DON’T RESPECT YOU

SILENCE! Haiku:

Jaded comics fans

We do our duty for you

No need to thank us

<ITEM> Dragging itself into the light like a flea-bitten, depressed lion at a run-down zoo, here’s a new SILENCE! to “brighten” your “days”. Gary Lactus & The Beast Must Die have a nice warm package for you that smells distinctly like comics…

<ITEM> The very loosest notion of sponsorship? I suppose.  There’s a run through of the contents of 2000AD Prog 284. Silence! Because The Film Has Started takes in Snowpiercer and Eurovision. There’s also some chat about the end of the current Hellblazer as well as a eulogy that cannot possibly do justice to the tragedy of Chadwick Boseman’s death.Plus a Great New Competition?

<ITEM> Reviewniverse is calling your name…will you answer it? We did and this is what happened…Doom Patrol Weight of Worlds, Prisoner: Shattered Visage, Doom 2099, Abslom Daak: Dalek Killer and James Stokoe’s Sobek are all discussed.

<ITEM> A bit of a chat about the unremitting awfulness of everything all the time and then home for cocoa and cookies.

You chaps were in especially Puckish form this episode. Thanks for the podcast. An absolute tonic.

  2. Gary Lactus Says:

Cheers Winty! It was a cathartic one.

  3. Greg Says:

This gets at how I feel about Fraction after trying many times to connect with his work in the early 2010s: I only wish his comics were as good as they way he describes them in interviews.

I keep meaning to put a post on here about how self-deprecating the podcast can sometimes be, I came for the comics but I stay for lifestyle magazine show. I always here you saying things like “anyone listening to this already knows all of this”……Well I’m the listener that doesn’t!

I’ve been listening to Silence for about 2 years all in all. Before I started I knew nothing of 2000ad really. All the head comics, the references to the books you guys used to read I knew nothing about and they just aren’t talked about in other comic podcasts. I recently started my first 2000ad sub, I’m chipping away at the first Dredd case files and I have the first two Rogue Trooper volumes in a box that my wife says I can’t read till Christmas. Also started reading through The Complete Future Shocks recently, which I picked up at Gosh as I was in London (again thanks to this show, also a great store to pick up Christmas presents for small children) and I’ve been having a great time with it. A shock a day to start the work from home day is great way to live.

I always like hearing opinions on new stuff, but the small press and older books that you’ve been reading/collecting is what makes Silence stand out to me.

……………I could probably do without knowing that Gary Lactus is pissing in a bottle. I thought that was a joke at first. Thanks for that.

    WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

  6. Gary Lactus Says:

And thanks for all the kind words. We should probably keep in mind that each pod is someone’s first but it’s hard when it’s usually the only time we two friends get to speak to each other properly for weeks.
