“You remind me of the babe!”
“What babe?”
“The babe with the power!”
“What power?”
“THE POWER TO MELT MEN’S BRAINS WITH IT’S EYES, TO REND THEIR SKIN FROM THEIR BONES WITH NARY A THOUGHT, THE POWER TO LEVEL CITIES WITH A BLINK, TOO MAKE A CHARNEL HOUSE OF THIS WORLD AND THE NEXT, TO TRAVEL OUT INTO THE STARS AND FURTHER AND TO BURN ANYTHING THAT GETS IN IT’S WAY…THAT POWER!”
“Oh. Well in that case I think you can keep that babe away from me. Nasty thing.”

I too thought Love & Mercy was great, the score in particular. Turning Beach Boys songs into a sort of sound collage sounds horrible in theory, but the result is really moving and surprising, like subliminal nostalgia (probably made more effective in a theater set-up.) Also I would watch a fake/re-enacted documentary that was entirely about the recording of Pet Sounds.
Miles Ahead isn’t quite as good, but the same thing applies to the flashbacks from when he was recording with Gil Evans – just give me actors pretending record my favorite albums in period-appropriate costumes, please.
Oh and more Flash Facts, please. Please please please.

Flash Facts? No idea what you’re talking about.

Love & Mercy definitely worth a watch, second the recommendation on the soundtrack, which doesn’t resort to the cliche of just been a repackaged best of the Beach Boys. The film manages to be a watchable bio-pic because it shows an interesting person at two interesting stages of their life, rather than just going route one and attempting to map the events of their life into a mechanistic ‘and this is how through their struggle they make art, congratulate us on the way we tie it all up now go out & but their best of because we happen to own a record label too’
I’ve given up on Island because of the change from perfect binding to staples and the varying quality of the content & erratic frequency of the ongoing material
DC Rebirth return update. Got a cheque in the post today for £11.55 from the Bromley branch of Bank of America, 2 weeks after it ws signed for at Burbank. Bit perfunctory and TBH was slightly looking forward to the prospect of having Geoff doing some admin and chasing the package with the USPO, given how he seemed to like the office stuff in Justice League, would have been right up his alley.

Good work, sirs!
Gary Lactus, if all goes well myself and Tam will be attending the comedy event, I believe it falls on the same date as the London comic mart, so would wrap up the day nicely.

Three thumbs up on this lovely issue. Or 2 thumbs if you don’t count the one in my heart.
