SILENCE! #161

October 27th, 2015

Right then.  It’s that time of year again when things get a bit spooky.  In order to do our bit for the annual Genre Fiction Evening otherwise known as Halloween, we present to you YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE!  Yes, it’s a solo Gary Lactus issue of SILENCE! where he tries to fit in some comic reading and reviews around a trip to do some comedy in Newcastle.

COWER at the background noise!

SHIVER at the limited insight!

TREMBLE at the shorter than usual length!

SHUDDER at the barely thought out opinions on Clean Room #1, Amazing Spider-Man, The Uncanny Inhumans, Karnak and Ant-Man!

QUAKE at the excuses

JUMP at the news about Secret Convergence on Infinite Podcasts and Thought Bubble!

VACILLATE at the obvious use of a thesaurus!

WOBBLE to the song at the end, Crazy Zombi Party!

I’m guessing from your ambivalent review that the mighty Lockjaw, (the only marvel character I want an action figure of) doesn’t make an appearance in the Inhumans?

Also on the subject of animals, be careful you don’t let your cat develop a crisp addict. I’ve seen it happen before. To begin with, they just want the occasional ready salted crisp, but then one day you realise you’re unable to open a packet of cheese and onion crisps anywhere in the house without having to pay a hefty tribute to a wailing crisp addict. It’s an ugly thing to hehold.

  2. Thrills Says:

The Inhumans should just be Black Bolt and Lockjaw, really, not the sprawling horrorshow Marvel seem to be foisting on people.

Silent toughguy plus teleporting dog in Kirby Kostumes? That’s good stuff.

I liked this episode of Silence!, it had a found footage horror quality, just in time for Hallowe’en. Especially liked the bit next to the hand dryer.

Zombie voice in the song at the end seemed to be channeling Dee Dee Ramone, which tickled my fancy, too.

  3. John Bishop Says:

Thrills nailed it. ‘Found footage’ is the perfect description. I wonder if the hand dryer was deliberate? Perhaps because of that racket, we are forced to listen more carefully, hanging on every priceless word.

I think I read somewhere that Ellis didn’t really know much about what was going on with the main Inhumans bunk, so his Karnak should remain fairly isolated. I used to really like the Inhumans, but haven’t been bothered about any of this Terrigen/no mutants/shoehorn Inhumans into continuity as the new version of mutants nonsense. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ellis bails after half a dozen issues, then we get blinking crossovers. Which would be a shame.

If this episode of SILENCE! was a comic, it would be a crumpled, water-damaged 25p box find with the cover coming off, but a brilliant read nonetheless.

    Happy Hallowe’en all!

really affected by the social realist flavour of this episode

  5. Gary Lactus Says:

The hand dryer was deliberate, the computer fan was deliberate, it was all deliberate and I am a genius.

Yes to a Black Bolt and Lockjaw buddy comic! I actually think Dan White could do that real good. Farel Dalrymple too. Or done in a Lando/Decadence Comics style, all wandering and crystals and stuff. WANT!
