Wot no SILENCE!?
June 6th, 2012
Hi gentle Silencers! Sadly once again this is a Silent SILENCE! week due to our big, busy, bulging schedules. We promise not to let Earthly concerns get in the way of our Cosmic mission ever again…and we’ll be back next week with a show stuffed full of comics giblets, so just hang on to your happy hats till then.
In the mean time, why not check out the Nintendo version of ‘There Will Be Blood’:
Or the Pingu version of John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’:
And if that’s not enough you could do a lot worse than reading Michel Fiffe’s cracking interview with a take-no-prisoners Tony Salmons over at The Factual Opionon:
Fiffe is probably my favourite comics critic writing at the moment – he writes with intelligence and passion about comic art without bringing his ego into play, and has tremendous taste in picking out artists that you may have forgotten about or overlooked. His pieces on Trevor Von Eden, Ty Templeton, Larry Stroman and others are absolutely essential reading, and you can add this Tony Salmons one to the list – what a phenomenal, explosive artist! See you next week!

Thanks for the heads up on Fiffe, I saw his Suicide Squad comic (which is amazing) a couple of weeks ago but his choices of under-appreciated artists to spotlight is phenomenal.
I got rid of a bunch of comics recently but ended up keeping some proper rubbish just for the art (a Von Eeden Bloodlines Batman Annual and a Tom Grindberg Armageddon 2001 tie-in were amongst them). It’s great to see these guys finally getting some of the props they thouroughly deserve.
All this Von Eeden talk has put me in the mood for a Thriller re-read. That’s my night sorted…

Thriller is a genuinely beguiling read. Just…very different.

I can’t help but suspect the Monarchy is somehow responsible for my lack of Silence! This is the sort of thing that makes me think we’d be much better off as a republic.
Oh well, I’ve found other stuff on the internet to entertain myself with instead. Check out this touching but honest obituary of Ray Bradbury by Mark Evanier. Well worth reading even if you weren’t familiar with his stuff.

I hope to hear the Silence! take on the film Prometheus. A very interesting work, that begs for a ‘not comics’ spotlight.

Those are four of the absolute best links I’ve clicked on in a long time. Thanks especially for the Michel Fiffe tip, what a treasure trove!
I’ll try to throw in a bit of fodder for the next SILENCE!! news segment, as it just may fly under the general radar

Is it, as one pundit states between quotation marks, the ‘beginning of the future of digital comics?’

“Fiffe is probably my favourite comics critic writing at the moment – he writes with intelligence and passion about comic art without bringing his ego into play…”
Oh indeed!
That Nintendo version of There Will Be Blood is almost good enough to make up for the lack of SILENCE! Almost, but not quite. If you skip another week I might be tempted to record a shitey Scottish version called WEESHT! with Mister Attack.
We’ll drink your milkshake, is what I’m saying, basically…
